                    Firefighter/EMS Academy Cohort Overview
The Firefighter/EMS Academy Cohort, along with the prerequisite courses, is designed to meet
the requirements of NFPA® 1001, Firefighter I. After completing this course, students will be
able to sit for the exam to certify them in becoming a Firefighter I per National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA®) 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. This course is
also based on the Basic Firefighting Training Program from the GA Public Safety Training
Center (GPSTC).
The courses required to complete the Firefighter/EMS Academy Cohort are as follows:
 Essentials of Fire and Emergency Services
Course Number: 43.46000
 Applications of Firefighting
Course Number: 43.44000
 Essentials of Fire and Emergency Services
Course Number: 43.46000
 Emergency Medical Responder
Course Number: 25.45000
These courses will address the essential components needed for fire and emergency services.
Students will explore career options, interagency communications, medical services, and basic firefighting standards. Students will also be exposed to hands on training, fire station visits, ride- along on fire engines and ambulances just to name a few. After graduation, students who successfully complete the cohort will be offered employment with the Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services with a starting salary of $48,500.
Requirements for the program:
1. Successful Completion of Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security.
2. A Rising Junior.
3. On Track for Graduation.
4. Commitment to the Program!
All class will be held during the 4 th block of the academic day at the Clayton County Fire and
Emergency Service Fire Academy, located in Riverdale, GA—Transpiration to and from the
academy is provided by the Clayton County Board of Education Transportation Department.
